Alexis Herman
Water has always been a grounding force in my life.
Alexis Herman is a contemporary painter known for capturing the calming and meditative qualities of water. Her work is defined by richly saturated colors and simple, organizing compositionsthat explore water’s reflective and rhythmic properties.
Herman’s connection to water began in childhood, evolving through her passion for surfing and sailing. Observing waves and light informs her art, allowing her to translate the serenity and grounding force of water onto canvas. Painting these memories helps her solidify feelings of peace and place, a theme central to her artistic journey.
Her work has been exhibited along the East Coast, including at Kelly-McKenna Gallery, and featured in New Visionary Magazine and Create! Magazine. She holds a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
Herman describes her work as meditative and enveloping, emphasizing the ocean’s regulatory and grounding effectsas central to her process. When away too long, she needs to either be in the ocean or painting it—preferably both.
