Marcos Kueh

Overview
In Borneo, people wove their myths and stories into textiles... I see my work as a contemporary version of this.
Marcos Kueh is a contemporary textile artist weaving post-colonial narratives and cultural identity into his work. Using traditional Bornean weaving techniques, he explores the layered histories and socio-political themes of his heritage. His Kenyalang Circus series merges Southeast Asian motifs with modern design, challenging viewers to consider the intersection of past and present. A graduate of Dasein Academy of Art, Kueh’s practice is shaped by his background in graphic design and Sarawakian culture. His works have been exhibited internationally, winning the Ron Mandos Young Blood Prize in 2022. Kueh views his art as a contemporary extension of Borneo’s textile traditions, using his pieces to spark conversations about identity, memory, and decolonization.
