The Creative Act: A Way of Being
Rick Rubin
Meeting: Thursday, January 16 @ 6-7:30 PM
Location: Kelly-McKenna Gallery, 1308 Third Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ
Summary: Many renowned music producers are recognized for their signature sound, which often defines a particular era. Rick Rubin, however, is known for something different: crafting a space where artists from all genres and backgrounds can truly discover who they are and what they have to offer. His approach aims to help individuals move beyond their self-imposed limits and reconnect with a state of innocence, where the unexpected becomes possible. Over the years, as he’s reflected on the nature of creativity, Rubin has come to understand that being an artist isn’t about the specific work you produce, but about your relationship to the world around you. Creativity is a universal force, accessible to everyone, and each of us has the potential to expand its presence in our lives. In fact, nurturing this creativity may be one of the most important responsibilities we have.
The Creative Act is a thoughtful and generous exploration that sheds light on the artist’s journey as a path all can walk. It distills a lifetime of wisdom into an insightful and inspiring read, bringing the power to create moments—and entire lifetimes—of joy and transcendence closer within reach for all of us.
