Summary: J. M. W. Turner, Britain's revered landscape painter, led a life shrouded in mystery and contradiction. Author Franny Moyle delves into the lesser-known aspects of the artist's life: from the tragic institutionalization of his mother to the personal sacrifices he made for his meteoric rise. Turner's enigmatic persona, characterized by visionary genius and eccentric behavior, unfolds against the backdrop of Britain's societal shifts during the French and Industrial Revolutions. Moyle explores Turner's private struggles, revealing a psychologically wounded individual seeking solace in a clandestine existence, culminating in a poignant portrayal of his final years and clandestine love affair.
